Update:

TiVo HD Platform Wild Spec Thread – Some very interesting things are under the hood… 😉

Well the S3-Lite came out sa expected. However, eSata is schedule for late 2007, and MRV/TTG look like they are nowhere in sight. Zatz thinks they are going to use coax instead??? 😮 Good lord!

It looks like TiVo will begin taking orders on its Website for the Series 3-Lite (TiVo HD) starting tomorrow (Tuesday) and have the boxes in store by early August; the price is $299.99. (AP)

The box is pretty much just what we have been expecting recently.

Maybe today’s revamp of Buy TiVo was an omen?  😉

Rumor has it that some aspect of MRV/TTG functionality is also around the corner. Then again, it may not be. 😦

Mike Lang over at TCF will have the full specs after midnight (whenever that is 😮 ) for us.

The TiVo box page which showed the DT180 out of stock earlier today is now showing a TiVo HD (180). Doesn’t look like the page is finished yet.

Any minute now. People are already ordering and it looks like TiVo is offering MSD with all their monthly plan bundles.

Engadget has promised a 00:01 ET story.

Engadget article had one interesting comment from Denny:

“The HD won’t launch with a lifetime service transfer promo, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t happen. ”

The rest retains or puts more uncertainty on eSata & MRV/TTG.

Lack of mention of WMV support is hopefully just an omission.

    MCard support is nice.

  7. HDTiVo Says:

    Multichannel News:

“In the second new development aimed at cable, TiVo established a dedicated CableCARD-support group, which will field front-line calls from customers who have questions or problems installing CableCARDs”

So TiVo is going to take on further costs supporting CC problems? WOuld have been nice to have that with the Premium S3 when it was $650+

  8. Dave Zatz Says:

Coax is just a wild-ass guess on my part to somehow rationalize why it’s taking so long and how they could transfer these large HD files efficiently. Given some TCF posts suggesting HD->SD conversions, now I’m having second thoughts… hm.

    http://www.vixs.com/sections/products/xcode_2100/products_xcode_2111.htm

This XCode 2111 chip that is supposed to be in the TiVo HD may be good news. It supports transcoding MPEG2 HD –> MPEG2 SD or MPEG 4 (SD or HD?),

and better yet, MSDRM and Real Networks DRM. This could be the key to bigger content availability.
